Avoiding Hair Loss

Thinning hair? Tips to save your strands this winter

Gasp when you see strands of hair in your brush first thing? Don’t worry, the average woman loses up to 150 hairs every day. While this might offer some reassurance, we know it’s not what you want to see, so read on for ways you can combat the top causes of hair loss this winter.

Battling breakage?

Cold temperatures and dry conditions can cause your hair to become brittle and break off. Booking in for a trim every six weeks and using a good conditioner such as Redken Extreme will help strengthen your strands. During and after pregnancy you can experience hair loss as oestrogen levels rise and dip down quickly. This is completely normal and will stop as hormone levels balance again.

Receding or thinning?

Receding hairlines for males and thinning hair for females is called “pattern hair loss” and is the most common type of hair loss. Pattern hair loss increases with age, affecting about 50% of males and 25% of females by the age of 50. While it is permanent, hair thickening products will help slow down the process.

A volumising shampoo and conditioner can add body to the hair and mask your thinning strands. Try the Redken Highrise Volume Lifting range for some extra lift, click here to shop the shampoo and conditioner online.

Three hair loss saviours

  1. Redken has an advanced product range, Cerafill, designed for hair loss and thinning. The shampoo and conditioner contains ceramide to strengthen the hair and SP-94 to nourish the scalp.

  2. Cerafill Maximise Dense FX is a hair thickening spray. It plumps each strand by up to 9%, so you can enjoy looking like you gained 9,000 more hairs after just one use! Plus, save a few dollars and buy the shampoo, conditioner and thickening spray in the Cerafill Retaliate Kit.

  3. Cerafill Retaliate is another great product, a high strength leave-in treatment that creates denser hair, with up to 1,700 new hairs in three months if used every day.

Losing clumps of hair?

While it’s completely normal to lose a few hairs, if your hair starts to fall out in clumps or bald patches the size of your fingernail appear, something more serious might be at play. Talk to your doctor if you’re concerned.
