Colour your hair? Here’s our hot tips for keeping it healthy.
New products and trends, better colouring methods, never-seen-before bright hues - En Jay stylist Tatjana soaked it all up at a recent two-day Redken colour course in Auckland. It’s time to share what she learnt about the hottest shades, healthy-hair tips and plans for the future.
The key to beautiful, coloured hair:
As well as learning about the huge product range and the benefits for different hair types, Tatjana confirmed her belief in the importance of in-salon treatments in keeping coloured hair healthy.
“The ‘PH BONDER’, Redken’s version of the popular ‘Olaplex’, helps maintain the hair’s natural ph level to ensure shiny, strong hair without breakage,” she says. “We add it to our colour formula and apply to the hair after the colour is rinsed out. We also have a take-home product to maintain your hair’s natural ph level in between salon visits.”
Tatjana says it’s important to know what colours are made of (alkaline or acid) so you can determine the best application.
“Certain colours should only be used on ‘zone one’ of the hair (closest to scalp), others are perfect for mid-lengths and ends. Knowing this is another way we can ensure your coloured locks look and feel luscious.”
What colours are hot for 2018?
“Rose gold tones are still a popular and fun choice for this year, as well as rich chocolate browns and pastels - especially pink,” she explains. “I’m excited to try beautiful bright colours and pastels using our ‘City Beats’ and ‘HD Resolution’ range. Colour can transform your look, brighten up your features and make you feel so much more confident!”
We’re focused on continued professional development at En Jay because the more we know about colour, the better your hair will look. Tatjana’s next step is sitting an exam later in the year to become a Redken certified colourist… watch this space!
