Winter Hair Issues

OUR TOP TIPS: Six winter hair issues and how to avoid them

Cosy fires, crisp morning walks, snuggly pajamas, split ends...wait, what?! While there are many amazing aspects to winter, the effect it has on your hair is not one of them. Here are our top tips for battling this season six major hair issues.

 #1 Dryness

The cold air can strip out your hair's moisture, leaving it dry and coarse. Fire some goodness back into your strands by swapping out your usual conditioner for a hair mask once a week, such as Redken Extreme Mega Mask

#2 Breakage

Another effect of the winter weather, breakage is very common as the temperature drops. Try switching to a protein-based shampoo and conditioner such as Redken Extreme Shampoo and Extreme Conditioner to toughen up your locks. For extra protection a leave-in treatment such as Redken Extreme Anti-Snap works wonders.

#3 Split ends

If you’re as guilty as us of blow waving and hitting the GHDs most mornings then you’re probably also a victim of split ends! Heat appliances can majorly damage your ends so it’s important to use a heat protector such as Redken Pillow Proof Primer first. Another great product to strengthen your hair is Redken Extreme Lengths Primer, which seals the ends of your strands to stop them splitting.

While products are great preventative measures, the only way to truly rid yourself of split ends is to get a trim every six to eight weeks to keep your hair healthy. Call 07 575 6029 and book your next appointment with us.

#4 Itchy scalp

It’s very common to get a scratchy scalp in winter. Luckily there are plenty of great products on the market to target all scalp issues. We’ve written a whole blog about how to ditch the itch and products we recommend! Click here to read it

#5 Frizz

Humidity causes hair to frizz up, which means it’s just as common on a rainy winter's day as it is mid-summer. When your hair is dry and lacking moisture the cuticle will open up to let moisture in from the air around it, which causes the hair strand to swell and create frizz. Use Redken Frizz Dismiss daily to keep your cuticles nourished and a mask once a week such as Redken All Soft Mega Mask to help maintain the moisture.

#6 Boredom

Dark winter days staring at the same do in the mirror each morning wishing for something new…..we’ve all been there! But we have an easy fix! A spruce up in colour or going a few inches shorter is a great pick me up to avoid those winter blues.
